We have some truly amazing individuals here at Inszone, who actively contribute in their community to help make a difference for others. Lisa Newman, a Senior Personal Insurance Specialist in our Grass Valley office, loves spending some of her time volunteering.
We value our local and regional communities. Inszone team members are encouraged to volunteer for charities that are important to them while receiving pay through Inszone’s new Charitable Time Off (CTO) initiative. We are pleased to see the difference that Lisa was able to make as a result of this company-wide program, and we look forward to seeing all of the incredible community efforts from other Inszone team members.
We took some time to ask Lisa about her long-term involvement with this program and why it’s important to her.
I started doing volunteer work when my children were little. I was a Girl Scout leader, led cooking classes for 4H, and even taught Sunday school. In the last 15 years, I volunteered during the fair to help in the Soroptimist booth serving teriyaki bowls and served coffee on Sunday for my church. I’m thinking that I started volunteering with “Friday Feast” about 4 years ago.
With her passion for volunteering, Lisa knew that serving at her church’s Friday Feast, would be a perfect fit.
Simple Truth Church, where Lisa attends, puts on an event called “Friday Feast” in which they spend the first Friday of the month serving food to anyone who wishes to attend. The idea behind “Friday Feast” is that the church opens its doors to church members as well as the public for dinner.
It started with the thought of a gathering at church where we could simply enjoy each other. We were encouraged to invite our neighbors, our co-workers, our family, and our community. It’s a great night to get to know your neighbors.
Our November dinner is the best attended with about 200 people served. We serve a full Turkey dinner along with the traditional desserts. I do remember on one of our first November events, I overheard a teenager from the local apartments comment that that meal was his first homemade thanksgiving dinner. You don’t realize how a simple meal can be so appreciated.
Inszone Insurance is excited to continue and support our employees as they volunteer with the causes that they are passionate about. Lisa, we are proud of the work you are doing and continue to do to make a difference in your community, keep it up!
