Please join us in congratulating Vivian Wang, our Employee Spotlight for the month of March!
Vivian Wang is a Commercial Lines Account Manager at Inszone Insurance Services, joining Inszone in December 2023. She attended College of San Mateo as a Business Major. Despite being new to the insurance industry, Vivian brings valuable experience from her previous roles in management, sales, and customer service.
When asked to share some words about Vivian, Caleb Brophy, who is a Commercial Lines Account Manager Team Lead at Inszone and Vivian’s direct supervisor, said, “Vivian is consistently one of the top performers on the team. Her excellent communication and problem-solving skills allow her to tackle any challenge; however, it is her work ethic and growth mindset that truly set her apart. Vivian started in commercial property with limited experience but quickly became one of the most knowledgeable and savvy account managers in the team. If there is something that she doesn’t know, it won’t stay like that for long. She is always willing to take on new challenges and still finds the time to provide guidance to others. I am continually impressed with her hard work, intelligence, and professionalism. Vivian, you are an invaluable member of the team and thank you for all that you do!”
Additionally, David Schuster, who oversees the property team and is our Commercial Property Team Manager, said, “Vivian has been an outstanding addition to Inszone and truly exemplifies the values and attitude that lead to success. She provides top notch service by rapidly responding to client needs and always striving to further her own insurance knowledge. I’m looking forward to seeing Vivian continue to grow and succeed!”
To get to know more about Vivian, we asked her a couple of questions about herself and her time at Inszone:
Q: What initially brought you to the insurance industry?
A: After returning to the United States following a decade abroad, a family friend who works with Inszone recommended the insurance industry. After discussing the nature of the role, I recognized that my skills and background aligned well, so I decided to pursue the opportunity.
Q: In what ways do you think your unique background or experiences contribute to your success in your role?
A: My background is predominantly in customer service, with some experience in education. The skills I’ve developed—such as maintaining a professional demeanor, organizing effectively, and demonstrating empathy, understanding, and patience—are all qualities I’ve successfully applied in my current role as an account manager.
Q: Can you share a particularly challenging situation you faced in your career and how you overcame it?
A: During my time abroad, I spent several years teaching English in China. Initially, I faced a unique challenge when I encountered difficulty securing employment, partly due to being ethnically Chinese. Though it was understandable that companies might prioritize non-Asian candidates, I found it frustrating to receive low offers or be passed over in favor of non-native speakers. Despite the setbacks, I remained persistent and focused on my own abilities. Over time, I built a strong support network and ultimately found a school that valued my qualifications and experience.
Q: What do you think sets you apart, and how does it benefit your team?
A: That’s a bit of a tough question when I think highly of so many colleagues. I believe my adaptability is one of my strongest attributes. I am open to taking on various roles, learning new skills, or adjusting my approach depending on the needs of a particular project. I’m comfortable following or leading, instructing or delegating, depending on the situation, and I’m always willing to accommodate the team’s needs, ensuring an open-minded and collaborative environment.
Q: Who has been the biggest influence or mentor in your life, and what valuable lessons have you learned from them?
A: At the age of 18, I worked in a motorcycle shop where I began as a secretary before quickly being promoted to manager. The owner, Marcus, became a significant mentor in my life. He instilled in me the belief that I could achieve anything I set my mind to, even in a male-dominated field. His guidance helped build my self-confidence, a lesson that has stayed with me throughout my career.
Q: What are some hobbies you do outside of work that you enjoy?
A: I have a deep passion for music, having been influenced by my grandmother, a music teacher. Growing up, I played multiple instruments, and though I no longer play, my love for discovering new musical acts and attending concerts remains strong. Additionally, I’ve been playing pool for nearly 10 years and, after moving back to the US, I joined a pool league. In fact, I’m excited to be joining a second league as well!
