Please join us in congratulating Sean Murphy, our Employee Spotlight for the month of August!
Sean Murphy is a Senior Personal Lines Insurance Specialist at Inszone Insurance Services, joining the company in September 2024 after the merger with L.A. Bowen Insurance. Sean graduated from Southern Utah University in 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and completed an internship with The Leavitt Group. Sean has held an insurance producer license since 2003 and has nearly two decades of experience serving clients.
Sean is committed to providing tailored solutions for his clients, drawing on his extensive knowledge of personal lines insurance. His dedication to his profession ensures that his clients receive exceptional service and coverage that fits their unique needs.
When asked to share some words about Sean, Alexandria Bowen who is Sean’s direct supervisor, said, “When it comes to excellence, Sean is truly the cream of the crop—not just in his own production, but as a teammate and leader within our branch.
Sean has one of the largest books of business in the company, which is a remarkable achievement in itself. But what makes him stand out even more is his consistent willingness to support others. Whether it’s answering questions, offering guidance, or jumping in to help with day-to-day operations, Sean is always going out of his way to offer support.
He brings a spirit of humility to everything he does and is always open to learning and adapting as our processes evolve. His work ethic, collaboration, and positive attitude have a ripple effect across the team, and we’re lucky to have him as part of the Orem branch and Inszone organization!”
We also reached out Layne Bowen, VP over Utah for comments about Sean: “Sean has been with the agency for 22 years now and has all the qualities of a great employee. Our mission statement with our agency is “212” that is the degree when water starts boiling and starts producing steam and that’s when great things can happen. Sean has been a “212” employee/agent/person since the day he came into this business. He has never once fallen outside the top 3 of production since he started, he also receives more 5 star google reviews from his insureds year in and year out then anyone else! On top of that, whenever something is needed in the office he is the first person to raise his hand and help out…example just recently, we had some training going on in our conference room with Inszone’s Leaderships Team and one of the lights in the room was flickering that was super annoying, I sent him a message while I was in this meeting and asked him if he would take a look at it when he got a chance, next thing you know he comes into the conference room with a ladder and changes the light bulb, this is just one example of who he is! He will drop everything to help someone out. I’m very happy he is being recognized and spot lighted, he has every quality you would want in a employee/business….loyal, honest, extremely hard working and goal oriented, and is a team player and someone you can always count on! in short, just a great all around person! ”
Lastly, we reached out to Sara Evans, Regional President over our Mountain West Region for comment on Sean and his work ethic, Sara mentioned, “One of my first interactions with Sean was around a large-scale claim he was managing. From the start, his care for his client’s well-being was evident. His empathy, professionalism, and attention to detail stood out then, and continue to set him apart now. On top of that, Sean is remarkably consistent in his performance, continually hitting his KPIs and delivering strong results month after month. We’re proud to have someone of his caliber representing the Mountain West Region. Sean exemplifies what it means to exceed client expectations in every interaction.”
Q: What initially brought you to the insurance industry?
A: I started my insurance career in 2002 as an intern with The Leavitt Group while attending Southern Utah University. After graduating in 2003, I was offered a full-time position with L.A. Bowen Insurance Agency (now Inszone Insurance Services). With the support of many great mentors and colleagues, I have been able to learn & navigate the insurance business (I’m still learning every day) and grow my client base. I’ve always enjoyed connecting with people and finding practical solutions to help them, which made insurance a natural fit for me.
Q: In what ways do you think your unique background or experiences contribute to your success in your role?
A: Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from a wide range of experienced professionals in the industry. Building strong relationships with underwriters and gaining the trust of my clients has always been a top priority. I genuinely enjoy finding ways to relate to our clients and working with them to create solutions tailored to their specific needs. I believe this personal approach has played a key role in my career.
Q: If you could describe your approach to teamwork in three words, what would they be and why?
A:
- Trust – Trust is the foundation of any strong team. I want my teammates to know that I have their back and that they can count on me.
- Unity – A united team is always more effective. When we work together toward a shared goal, we accomplish more and support each other through challenges.
- Gratitude – I’m truly thankful for my team. Their hard work motivates me every day, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
Q: Can you share a particularly challenging situation you faced in your career and how you overcame it?
A: There have been many challenges over the years, but one of the most persistent lately has been navigating significant rate increases. These situations can be difficult for clients to manage, so I focus on consistency, communication, and empathy. By actively listening, offering solutions, and showing clients that I genuinely care about their needs, I’m able to maintain strong relationships – even during tough times.
Q: Who has been the biggest influence or mentor in your life, and what valuable lessons have you learned from them?
A: I’ve been fortunate to have several important influences in my life. My mom and stepdad instilled in me the values of hard work, loyalty, and love – principles that guide me every day. In my professional life, Layne Bowen and Brian Bowen have been incredible mentors for over 20 years. Their willingness to share their knowledge and give honest feedback has shaped much of who I am as a professional today.
Q: What are some hobbies you do outside of work that you enjoy?
A: Outside of work, my family and I love spending time outdoors. We enjoy snowboarding, fishing, camping, and traveling to new places together. I also love coaching my kids and watching them play sports, it’s one of the most rewarding things I get to do.
Sean, your dedication and focus have been key to the success of your team and the company. We’re excited to see your continued success!
